Our History
- 1984 - A Steering Committee is formed to organize
and establish a Pregnancy Support Center in Chambersburg. Ministry
incorporation becomes a reality in December.
- 1986 - An Executive Director is hired and
the first office opens in an efficiency apartment on Lincoln Way
West in May.
- 1989 - In need of more space, the office
moves to the second floor of 221 lincoln Way East.
- 1990 - To help handle the demands of office
management, a Ministry Secretary is hired at 12 hours per week.
- 1992 - A Steering Committee is formed to
look at the possibility of opening a second office in Waynesboro.
- 1993 - A Center Director is hired and the
Waynesboro Satellite Center opens in June at 237 East Main Street.
- 1994 - Inroads are made to present the message of abstinence
during Abstinence Week in the Waynesboro School District.
- 1996 - A Stearing Committee is formed to look
at the possibility of opening a satellite office in Shippensburg.
- 1997 - With a desire to further the message of
Abstinence to area teens, an Abstinence Education Coordinator is hired
to oversee and promote This component of the ministry. “A+ for
Abstinence” is officially born.
- 1997 - The Chambersburg Center moves to the second
floor of 497 Lincoln Way East in January.
- 1997 - To decrease the demands on the Executive
Director in running the Chambersburg Center and overseeing
the Waynesboro Center, Abstinence Program, and emerging Shippensburg Center,
a Chambersburg Center Director is hired in late Spring.
- 1997 - A Shippensburg Center Director is hired
and the Shippensburg Center opens in July at 24 West King Street.
- 2000 - In critical need of more space for the
Chambersburg Center, which is also home to the Administrative Office,
the Staff and Board begin praying for God’s wisdom and provision.
A committee is formed to scout out properties and bring recommendations
to the Board.
- 2001 - The Board votes at its February meeting
to pursue the purchase of a building at 338 Lincoln Way East. The ministry
officially begins seeing clients at its new location in July
In 2002, the centers saw a combined total of 287 new
clients. In all, 1605 appointments were kept between the three centers.
The "A+ for Abstinence" program hit a landmark in December of
2001, having been presented to 10,000 teens. In 2002
alone, over 4,000 teens heard the message of abstinence in area schools, churches,
and other community youth meetings.
